Long-Range Precision Rifle Training
Precision Begins Long Before the Shot.
Long-range shooting is one of the most demanding disciplines in the shooting sports. At extended distances, small inconsistencies that may be almost invisible at 50 or 100 yards can become significant.

Majeed Guns & Firearms School offers Long-Range Precision Rifle Training designed to help shooters develop a deeper understanding of their rifle, optic, ammunition, equipment, shooting fundamentals, and performance at distance.

Whether your goal is recreational precision shooting, competitive shooting, hunting preparation, or simply becoming more capable with your precision rifle, we can build training around your experience and objectives.

What Is Long-Range Shooting?
Long-range shooting is precision rifle shooting at distances where accuracy requires considerably more than simply placing the crosshairs on a target.
As distance increases, the shooter must become more consistent and develop a better understanding of the relationship between the rifle, optic, ammunition, shooting position, environmental conditions, and shooter fundamentals.

Long-range shooting can include several disciplines:
Precision Rifle / PRS-Style Shooting — Competitors engage targets at varying distances and often from multiple positions under time constraints. The Precision Rifle Series describes its sport as combining accuracy, movement, equipment management, environmental awareness, and decision-making.

F-Class Shooting — A highly accuracy-focused discipline generally fired prone using precision rifles supported by a bipod or front rest and rear support. NRA F-Class competition commonly includes distances from 300 through 1,000 yards.

Long-Range Target Shooting — Recreational or competitive shooting focused on producing consistent impacts or tight groups at extended distances.

Long-Range Hunting Preparation — Training designed to help hunters better understand the capabilities and limitations of themselves, their equipment, and their chosen ammunition before entering the field.

Rimfire Precision Shooting — Long-range principles applied to .22 LR rifles. Rimfire precision can provide an excellent environment for developing positional shooting and consistency at shorter distances.

Extreme Long Range (ELR) — Specialized precision shooting at exceptionally long distances that places substantial demands on the shooter's equipment, ammunition consistency, environmental assessment, and fundamentals.

Why Long-Range Training Matters
Expensive equipment alone doesn't create a precision shooter.

A premium rifle and optic can be extremely capable, but the shooter still has to develop consistency, discipline, repeatable fundamentals, and an understanding of the equipment.

Quality instruction can help identify small inconsistencies in shooting position, rifle support, trigger control, optic use, follow-through, or equipment setup that become increasingly apparent as distance increases.

Our objective is not simply to help you make one impressive hit.

It's to help you understand how to produce repeatable performance.

Precision Rifle Equipment
Long-range shooting is an equipment-intensive discipline, and selecting equipment that works together is important.

A typical precision-rifle setup may include:
Precision Rifle — A quality rifle capable of consistent accuracy is the foundation of the system.

Quality Optic — Long-range optics generally provide appropriate magnification, repeatable adjustments, a useful reticle, and clear glass.

Bipod — Provides stable front support for prone and supported positions.
Rear Bag — Helps support the rear of the rifle and refine stability.

Spotting Scope or Binoculars — Useful for observation, spotting impacts, evaluating targets, and communicating between shooter and observer.

Rangefinder — Helps establish accurate target distance where appropriate.

Ballistic Data Tools — Data books and appropriate ballistic-reference tools can help shooters organize information about their rifle and ammunition.

Shooting Bags & Positional Supports — Frequently used in precision-rifle competition and field-style shooting.

Eye & Hearing Protection — Essential range equipment.

Choosing a Long-Range Rifle
There is no single “best” long-range rifle for everyone.

The appropriate rifle depends on the shooter's intended discipline, budget, experience, preferred cartridge, recoil tolerance, desired distance, and whether the rifle will be carried in the field or primarily fired from supported positions.

Bolt-Action Precision Rifles
Bolt-action rifles are extremely popular for precision shooting because of their simplicity, consistency, broad cartridge selection, and the availability of purpose-built precision platforms.

They are commonly seen in target shooting, F-Class, hunting, competition, and recreational long-range shooting.

Precision Semi-Automatic Rifles
Semi-automatic rifles can also be configured for excellent precision and are particularly useful in disciplines where rapid follow-up shots or different competition formats are important.

Precision Rimfire Rifles
A quality .22 LR precision rifle can be an outstanding training platform. Rimfire precision competition has become an established discipline; PRS itself operates a Rimfire Series.

Popular Long-Range Cartridges
Depending on the discipline, rifles used for precision shooting are chambered in cartridges such as 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, .223 Remington, various 6mm competition cartridges, and larger specialized cartridges for extended-range applications.

Bigger isn't automatically better.

Recoil, ammunition availability, barrel life, rifle weight, cost, intended distance, and competition rules can all influence cartridge selection. For example, international precision-rifle competition includes Open, Limited and Factory divisions with different equipment requirements, while Limited competition specifies .308 Winchester.

We can help students understand these tradeoffs rather than assuming the largest or most powerful cartridge is automatically the right choice.

How Long-Range Shooting Is Scored
Scoring depends heavily on the discipline.

In PRS-style competition, scoring is primarily impact-based: a target impact generally earns a point, and stages are often performed under a time limit. PRS describes its basic scoring concept as one impact equaling one point.

F-Class uses precision paper targets and numerical scoring rings. NRA competition includes dedicated F-Class targets and formal courses of fire at distances extending to 1,000 yards.

For recreational training, performance can also be evaluated through group size, consistency, first-round performance, repeatability, and improvement over time.

Learn to Spot as Well as Shoot
Long-range shooting can be a team effort.

A skilled observer or spotter can help monitor conditions, observe target impacts, communicate useful information, and help the shooter evaluate performance.

Our training can introduce students to the shooter/spotter relationship, spotting optics, communication, target observation, and maintaining useful shooting data.

Competition Preparation
Interested in taking precision shooting beyond recreational range use?
We can help introduce shooters to the structure and expectations of precision-rifle competition.

PRS stages can involve steel targets, multiple distances, different shooting positions, barricades, natural terrain, and limited time. The sport is designed to challenge much more than pure bench-rest accuracy.

F-Class provides a different challenge, emphasizing extreme precision from the prone position. NRA rules list common F-Class distances of 300, 500, 600, 800, 900 and 1,000 yards.

Understanding which discipline interests you helps determine how you should train and what equipment makes sense.

Learn From the Standards of Elite Precision Shooters
The precision-rifle world includes exceptional competitors across disciplines such as PRS, international precision rifle, F-Class, Benchrest and ELR.

Rather than focusing on celebrity alone, we encourage students to study what consistently separates accomplished precision shooters: disciplined fundamentals, equipment knowledge, careful observation, quality data, consistency, patience, and deliberate practice.

The Precision Rifle Series and International Precision Rifle Federation provide formal competitive environments where some of the world's highest-level precision-rifle athletes compete and where current competitors, rankings, and championship results can be followed.

Beginner to Advanced — Build Your Precision Program
You don't have to already be a long-range shooter.

We can help a new precision-rifle student begin with the fundamentals and progressively develop their abilities.

For experienced shooters, private instruction can focus more specifically on consistency, equipment optimization, positional shooting, competition preparation, data collection, and identifying weaknesses in existing fundamentals.

Precision Is Built—Not Purchased.
The rifle matters.
The optic matters.
The ammunition matters.
But ultimately, the shooter has to make the system perform.
